World's largest aircraft "Mriia" to fly over Khreshchatyk on Independence Day

The world's largest transport aircraft, An-225 "Mriia," will take part in a military parade dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine in Kyiv.

Ukroboronprom announced this, Rubryka reports.

On August 24, Mriia will fly over Khreshchatyk and close the air column of military helicopters, fighter planes, attack planes, bombers, and military transport ships: in particular, Mi-8, Mi-14, Mi-24, Su-27, MiG-29, IL-76, and the whole "An" family: An-70, An-26, An-72, An-32P.

On August 18, 2021, the An-225 took part in the first rehearsal of the military parade.

Ukrboronprom notes: "Mriia" can transport heavy and oversized cargo both inside the fuselage and on the external suspension.

This aircraft was created to transport the reusable ship "Buran" and parts of the "Enerhiia" launching vehicle. It was also envisaged that the An-225 would be used as a multipurpose aerospace system (MAKS) spaceport, in which the aircraft is the first stage and the second stage is a small space "shuttle" with a fuel tank.

On March 22, 1989, "Mriia" with a load of 156,3 tons rose in the air and set 110 world records on speed, the height of the flight, and loading capacity in 3 hours 45 minutes of flight. And already on September 11, 2001 "Mriia" set 124 world records and 214 national records.
