Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova approved the notification of suspicion to the former Deputy Chairperson of the Board of PrivatBank of committing a crime under Part 5 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation, embezzlement of property, or defraud by abuse of position in especially large amounts or by an organized group).

NABU reports.

"According to intelligence information, the ex-official planned to leave Ukraine on a private plane toward Vienna, departing from Dnipro. Thanks to the efforts of the detective group's head and the NABU director, who appealed to the State Aviation Service, the plane landed at Boryspil airport, where they started immediate investigative measures. Details will be later," the bureau reports.

It's one of the most high-profile cases in Ukraine.

According to Pravda, it's the first deputy chairperson of the board of Privatbank in 2016, Volodymyr Yatsenko. Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova signed the notice of suspicion after the suspect was arrested on Monday morning.

Former top managers of the nationalized Privatbank, who live in Austria and Switzerland, regularly come to Ukraine. In particular, Volodymyr Yatsenko, a former head of Privatbank's corporate VIP business, travels on the Geneva-Vienna-Ukraine route.

Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova confirmed the suspicion towards Privatbank's ex-official: "The signature under suspicion notices of former Privatbank top managers is mine. Today we dismantled manipulations and stereotypes that have long been part of our culture; witnesses in one of the important and sensitive criminal cases on our international partners' lips have become suspects…

After holding several meetings with NABU detectives and SAP prosecutors, I personally decided on the need for a series of guidelines on investigative actions and conducting an expert study to confirm the damage caused to the state and citizens. I can't go into details and talk about the state of affairs in this particular case; I can only say that it didn't work for me in terms of the prospects of filing charges in court…

We still have a lot to do in our triangle: the Prosecutor's General Office, NABU, SAP. I know for sure we'll see many more signatures on various suspicion notices. I can promise one thing: there are no important names for me, and for these names, believe me, it's a very important message. No matter how loud and invincible the name is, I don't sanction the suspicion if I believe that the evidence gathered in the case is insufficient. And, of course, I will act according to the law if the evidence is proper and collected in the required amount.

I keep my finger on the pulse in several important cases, where, in my opinion, detectives and prosecutors should "push" more. We'll definitely speed up, and soon give a new and no less important result," Venediktova added.
