"EcoChubaka:" how two girls in Uzhgorod organized waste sorting on bicycles
... and will not stop there
According to the Law on Waste, Ukrainians have to sort garbage since 2018. But this law doesn't actually work. Not lastly because people find reasons and excuses for why it's impossible for them. Many people think: "let others start first," "the authority doesn't help, only threatens with fines," "it's the manufacturer's business to dispose of waste" or "I agree, but there are no conditions. The contents of the separate tanks still fall into one pile, and the sorting stations are so far away from my house."
"We are your conditions!" Valeria Popovych and Emilia Brovdi say, the founders of the initiative called "EcoChubaka." For three months, young environmental activists have been taking sorted garbage from citizens in Uzhhorod and taking it to the Recycling Station on their own bicycles.
