Among Ukrainians who have registered for temporary asylum in Norway, 30% are officially employed, twice the number employed a year ago.

VG reports that Tonje Brenna, the Norwegian Minister of Labor and Integration, announced this during a visit to Kyiv.

The Norwegian official noted that among Ukrainians with temporary protection in her country, 30% are employed.

"The employment rate has doubled over the past year. In addition, participation in various qualification programs is very high. Almost all Ukrainians in Norway are currently either working or undergoing qualification," Tonje Brenna noted.

A government official from Norway noted that approximately 90,000 Ukrainians currently reside in the country. During meetings in Kyiv, discussions will focus on the opportunities and training necessary to ensure these individuals can contribute to Ukraine's needs post-war.

Brenna was also asked how much time Ukrainians with temporary protection will have from the moment a potential peace agreement is concluded until their status for staying in Norway expires.

"Our goal is to provide them with opportunities for integration without restrictions, but at the moment, we cannot say how long the residence permits will be valid. Ukrainians in Norway express great gratitude for the way we have accepted them," the Norwegian minister emphasized.

It should be noted that on the morning of March 26, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and Minister of Labor and Integration Tonje Brenna arrived in Kyiv for a visit. This is Minister Brenna's first visit to Ukraine. She plans to discuss preparations for the return home of Ukrainians who are currently under temporary protection in Norway.

The temporary protection mechanism for Ukrainians seeking refuge from a full-scale war on the territory of the European Union came into effect in many countries on March 4, 2022.

On December 31, it became known that the United Kingdom had provided asylum to more than 300,000 Ukrainians who were forced to leave their country due to Russia's full-scale invasion.

Also on December 21, the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Czech Parliament, approved in the third reading the collection of laws Lex Ukraine VII, which allows for the extension of temporary protection for asylum seekers from Ukraine for another year.

In the United States of America, a decision was made to extend the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ukrainian citizens for another 18 months.

It is worth adding that on June 25, the Council of the European Union adopted a decision to extend temporary protection until March 4, 2026, for more than 4 million Ukrainians who have found refuge in the EU from Russian aggression.

In several European countries, Ukrainians will be paid up to 5,300 euros for early return home.
