Eco-solutions: Poltava region community joins Forest Recovery Project

The Velykorublivska community from the Poltava region has recently joined the Forest Recovery project to conserve and replenish the area's forest resources.

Forests of Ukraine reported that on Telegram.

What is the problem?

In autumn, a massive forest fire engulfed and destroyed newly planted crops.

"During that time, everyone joined together to extinguish the fire. The community's equipment and farms were also involved, and the residents themselves did not stand idly by but pitched in to help put out the fire," the community notes.

What is the solution?

Foresters and the Velykorublivska community have been working together to save forests and allocate land for the Forest Recovery project, which involves planting new forests.

How does it work?

According to reports, 45.9 hectares of new forest will be planted in the Borivske Forestry, part of the Poltava Forestry branch.

The Velykorublivska community granted the forestry department land to establish forest plantations. Some plots were already planted in the spring, and now tree seedlings of various species are planted in the autumn.

Viacheslav Oliynyk, the leader of the Velykorublivska community, emphasized that the community has been cooperating with forestry for a long time.

"We had cooperation with forestry even before the unification of the community. And after the formation of the territorial community, every year, we plan to allocate a certain amount of land at the request of forestry for new forests," the head of the community said.

Over the past five years, the Velykorublivska community has transferred about 500 hectares of land for new forest plantations and self-seeded forests. These actions aim to restore ecosystems and preserve nature, which is extremely important in the current conditions.

For reference:
It should be noted that last year, the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine," together with communities and international partners, launched the Forest Recovery Program.
