Norway introduces temporary border controls because of the increase in the level of the terrorist threat

Norway has been introducing temporary border checks with other Western European countries since its internal security agency raised its terror threat level.

AP reported about it with reference to the country's police.

Officials will carry out inspections until October 22.

The police statement referred to a "complex threat" and the Norwegian Police Security Service announcement on October 8 the threat level increase from "moderate" to "high," the second level on a five-point scale.

Police said the new controls will not apply to all travelers, and there is no reason to expect delays at border crossings.

The Norwegian Police Security Service pointed to the growing threat to Jewish and Israel facilities.

Norway is not a member of the European Union, but the country is part of the European visa-free travel area known as the Schengen Area. It has land borders with EU and Schengen zone members – Sweden and Finland.

Rubryka previously reported the Norwegian government is considering the possibility of building a fence on the border with the Russian Federation, which should help if there is a flow of refugees from Russia.
