Ukrainian forces expand control in Russian territory during second week of raid in Kursk region
For the second week, the Defense Forces' raid on the Kursk region of the Russian Federation continued, and Ukrainian soldiers managed to occupy several more settlements. The main advance of the Armed Forces took place over the past day to the south of Sudzha. At the same time, the fighting zone in the Korenevsky district also expanded slightly.
Russian media resources and RBC-Ukraine reported that.
According to the Russians, Ukraine's armed forces carried out the main offensive in the past day on the southern outskirts of Sudzha district. Thus, according to the so-called Russian military commanders, Ukrainian troops retain control of Sudzha.
Meanwhile, the Russian opposition publication "Meduza" claims that the Ukrainian armed forces have reportedly taken control of a majority of the city and the village of Makhnovka. Additionally, Russian media outlets report on alleged Ukrainian assaults in the northeastern village of Martynovka.
According to "Rybar," a Telegram channel closely affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Defense, Ukraine has gained control of the villages of Spalnoye and Plekhovoye, allowing its armed forces to advance into the southern part of the Kursk region.
Yesterday afternoon, news of the latter emerged, with a video circulating on social media showing Ukrainian soldiers and armored vehicles moving along the street in the village of Plekhovoye. The footage was taken in the town square.
The Russian media outlet "Agenstvo" reports on a slight increase in the area of active combat in the Korenovo district of Kursk region, located approximately 15 km northeast of the village of Korenevo. According to "Meduza," the military forces have reached the eastern outskirts of Korenevo.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has reported that Ukraine's armed forces have launched attacks in the vicinity of Obshchiy Kolodez village. NASA satellites have recorded evidence of the clashes as well. There is also ongoing fighting near the district center.
Ukrainian armored personnel carriers were also spotted in the village of Girya, a village in the Bielovsky district of Kursk region, which is located east of Sudzha.
The offensive continues to the south and north of Sudzha. According to "Meduza" information, Ukrainian troops allegedly "have not yet succeeded" in breaking through along the Sudzha-Kursk and Sudzha-Lgov roads. However, Ukraine's military was able to advance in the direction of Lgov to the west of the village of Kauchuk and the Alekseevskyi farm.
Furthermore, as reported by Russian military officials, Ukrainian troops are making progress in the fields to the north of Snagost village (south of Korenevo) and have also gained control of Pogrebka.
According to the American Institute for the Study of War, based on statements and personnel location, it is believed that as of yesterday, Ukrainian forces were present in or near about 41 settlements in the Kursk region. However, analysts point out that ISW did not include numerous very small settlements and localities in the area in this tally.
"The differences between official reports from Ukraine and observed statements from ISW do not disprove the Ukrainian reports but rather stem from the limitations of ISW's method of using only publicly available information," the experts explained.
