During the evening of June 6, the anti-aircraft defense successfully intercepted all the cruise missiles launched by the Russian invaders and almost fifty Shaheds as they repelled the enemy's combined assault.

The commander of the Air Force of Ukraine's armed forces, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, reported this.

It is noted that, in general, the enemy used during this attack:

  • five Kh-101/Kh-55 air-launched cruise missiles,
  • 53 "Shahed-131/136" attack UAVs.

Oleshchuk mentioned that the attackers used Tu95MS strategic aircraft to target crucial infrastructure in Ukraine. The bombers launched the rockets from the airspace of the Saratov Region in Russia.

The enemy launched kamikaze drones from the following districts:

  • Primorsky-Akhtarsk,
  • Yeysk,
  • Kursk,
  •  Cape Chauda in the occupied Crimea.

"As a result of the anti-aircraft battle, 48 attack UAVs and 5 X-101/X-555 cruise missiles were shot down in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Odesa, Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions," the general's statement reads.

Oleshchuk mentioned that the air strike was successfully countered by various military forces, including:

  • mobile fire groups from the Defense Forces of Ukraine,
  • fighter planes,
  • and units from the anti-aircraft missile troops and Air Force's radio-electronic warfare division.

For reference:

A large-scale air raid alert was declared in Ukraine that night due to another massive air strike by the Russian invaders.

There were explosions heard during the enemy attack launched by Shahed drones in Odesa and the Khmelnytskyi region. Specifically, the city of Starokostiantyniv was targeted.

There were reports of air defense operations in the Kyiv region. Early in the morning, the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration stated that an enemy attack resulted in a fire at an industrial facility, but fortunately, there were no casualties.

Furthermore, Poland announced that it and its allies were deploying military aircraft in response to Russia's air attack on Ukraine.

The Polish military noted that before that, they had observed Russian aviation conducting strikes on western regions of Ukraine on the night of June 1.

"All necessary procedures have been initiated to ensure the safety of Polish airspace, and the Operational Command of the RSZ is constantly monitoring the situation," the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces added.
