Rebuilding Ukraine: Ukrainian embassy in Qatar plans to collect funds for Ukraine's church restoration on Easter
The Ukrainian embassy in Qatar extended an invitation to the Ukrainian community to celebrate Easter at the diplomatic mission in Doha. They also encouraged donations towards the restoration of a damaged Orthodox church in Kyiv caused by the Russians.
This is stated on the embassy's Facebook page.
What is the problem?
On the night of March 21, Russian troops launched a massive shelling of Ukraine, using 31 missiles, two of which were ballistic, including "Iskander" (KN-23) and "Kinzhal" missiles.
Although they were all successfully shot down, pieces of enemy missiles landed in various parts of Kyiv and injured 13 people during the attack on the city.
Also in Kyiv, as a result of a Russian missile attack on the morning of March 21, six educational institutions were damaged, and the St. Nicholas Church on Tatarka [area in Kyiv – ed.] was damaged.
"The church was struck by debris from a Russian ballistic missile. The cross was damaged, the shattered glass shattered the icons, and the windows and doors were smashed. The adjacent chapel was completely destroyed. A hole can be seen near the church," Andriy Kovalov, the press secretary of the 112th Separate Brigade of Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine, said.
The damaged church belongs to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
What is the solution?
Therefore, funds will be collected on Easter in Qatar to restore the St. Nicholas Church in Ukraine.
How does it work?
According to the report, in accordance with tradition, Archpriest Taras Melnyk, abbot of St. Michael's Church of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, will offer spiritual guidance to the Ukrainian House guests who work at the embassy via the Internet.
"This temple, located in Kyiv on Tatarka, was destroyed on March 21 of this year as a result of a missile attack by Russian aggressors. Since the revival of Ukrainian shrines should become a people's matter, we would be grateful if, after our holiday, you transferred the funds for the restoration of this temple to the accounts that Father Taras provided," the post reads.
The diplomatic mission expressed the hope that the concerned Ukrainians in Qatar would be happy to join this noble cause.
"We believe that the power of the Lord's word and common prayer will serve as consolation in our difficult time, and the pastoral blessing that we hope to receive from Father Taras will give us all strength and protect us from troubles. We also sincerely believe that the Easter shepherds standing on the festive table will be consecrated because there are no distances or borders for this," the diplomatic mission emphasized.
The celebration will take place on the day of the Holy Resurrection, May 5, at 18.00 at the Ukrainian embassy. People who would like to join are invited to bring festive baskets to share at the Easter celebration.
