Ukraine has identified over 2,800 fragments and bodies of fallen soldiers

Ukraine has identified more than 2,800 bodies and body fragments have been, Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets says.

The process of searching for their relatives to return them for burial is underway.

He had an important meeting with family members of the fallen soldiers.

"Due to complaints from family members of servicemen about the long period of time it takes to identify unidentified bodies of defenders, our institution invited representatives of state bodies to communicate, find out the reasons and discuss ways to solve the problem." 

According to the Ombudsman, more than 2,800 bodies and body fragments of military personnel have been identified.

At a meeting with family members of the fallen soldiers, he provided comprehensive answers to a number of questions about the timing of body identification and notification of families, the work of the DNA database, communication with investigators, the work of experts, identification algorithms, etc.

In May of this year, Ukraine launched the Unified Register of Missing Persons to track searching operations.
