Estonian forces to study and adopt Ukraine's drone experience
The Estonian Defense League (Kaitseliit) chief Ilmar Tamm says his team would study and partially adopt the experience of using drones in the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, the ERR reports.
Tamm said that based on the war experience in Ukraine, the Estonian forces could start developing their own mobile drone defense.
Ukrainians have created an effective multi-level air defense system that can successfully shoot down Russian drones, even if they arrive in flocks.
"Since there has been talk lately of drawing on Ukraine's experience in repelling drone attacks, I think the next step for us is to create something like mobile teams," Tamm said.
In his opinion, the main thing in this process will be establishing communication to receive operational information about the air-raid warning.
"Russian forces are launching their drones en masse, hoping that some of this group of drones will break through."
Among the other tasks of the Estonian Defence League under his command, Tamm mentioned protecting critical facilities and the creation of checkpoints, as well as the development of networks for reporting suspicious circumstances related to enemy actions.
The Estonian Defence League will begin training drone operators as part of public procurement, as well as practice combat operations in the context of enemy drone use.
The Estonian army also plans to create a unit that will focus exclusively on the use of kamikaze drones, taking into account the experience of Russia's war against Ukraine.
