Ukraine raises over $18.000 to support its veterans at US charity event
Ukrainian Veteran Foundation raised over $18.000 (700,000 hryvnias) for projects of veterans and their families at a charity event in the US.
The "Heroes support heroes" auction took place in Washington DC.
The performance of the famous Ukrainian violinist and military man Moisei Bondarenko was a special part of the evening. As a person from the front line, he inspires thousands of people around the world. An auction was also held in the evening, where paintings of Ukrainian defenders, postcards with signatures of Ukrainian military personnel, etc., were sold.
The United States of America has the longest experience in the world in the development of veterans' policies. We are engaging their best practices that will be able to meet the needs of our veterans, Yulia Laputina, head of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, said during the event.
This event was hosted within the framework of the visit of the delegation of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, headed by its head Yulia Laputina, as well as the Ukrainian Veteran Foundation. The delegation also included Ukrainian veterans: Moisei Bondar and Oleksandr Holopotelyuk.
Hosting such an event is not about "raising money". We are establishing contacts with representatives of the American Congress, other governmental and non-governmental institutions, businesses. Over time, this will open up wider perspectives and opportunities for our veterans. Also, the world is becoming one big veteran community, when we all know each other through a single handshake, Nataliya Kalmykova, executive director of the Ukrainian Veterans'Fund, emphasized.
The largest amount of money was collected by the sale of the lot of the Special Operations Forces flag. It was purchased for over $4000. The second most valuable lot was the flag of the "Badgers", a separate battalion of marines. Visitors bought it for over $3,400.
