Britain supports "hybrid" tribunal over authorities of russian federation
Great Britain has joined a group of international partners who will seek criminal responsibility for russia's invasion of Ukraine.
This was announced on Friday by the head of the British Foreign Ministry, James Cleverley, Reuters reports.
"These atrocities (by russia in Ukraine – ed.) should not go unpunished. That is why Great Britain has accepted Ukraine's invitation to join this coalition, offering its legal expertise to explore the possibilities of holding russian leaders fully accountable for their actions," Cleverley said.
It is noted that Britain's participation will include an assessment of the possibility of creating a new "hybrid" tribunal, a specialized court integrated into the national justice system of Ukraine with international elements.
"An investigation into the crime of aggression could complement established war crimes investigation mechanisms, including the International Criminal Court and Ukraine's domestic legal process. Together, these parallel processes will help ensure that all crimes are fully investigated, and the perpetrators brought to justice," Cleverley said.
