Dnieper River level rises in Kyiv
Kyiv residents complain about the rising water level in the Dnieper, particularly the flooding of the banks in Natalka Park and near the new pedestrian bridge that leads to Obolon Island.
The head of the Obolon district administration, Kyrylo Fesyk, reported that the reason for the rising water is a planned discharge. Over time, the water level will level off.
"I am reporting on the situation: the Kyiv Reservoir is operating normally, and the water level has risen due to the planned release of water, which is taking place per regulations," Fesyk wrote.
The increase in the water level in the Dnieper within the limits of Kyiv is connected with the peculiarities of the Kyiv and Kaniv Hydroelectric Power Plants. It does not exceed the emergency values, says the director of the Department of Municipal Security, Roman Tkachuk.
According to him, the water level in the Dnieper has risen by about 1 meter due to the intensive work mode at the mentioned HPPs. They are currently operating to support the unified energy system of Ukraine, which has been under russian missile attack for two days in a row.
"The city services are monitoring the situation. According to experts, the water level will stabilize within a week," the Kyiv City Administration reassures.
The Ukrhydroenergo company that manages all Ukrainian hydroelectric energy plants also reported that the situation is stable; the company continues to provide coverage of peak loads. The hydroelectric power plants and pumped hydroelectric energy storage are working as usual.
