New rules on taking your pet abroad you should know
Since the beginning of the great war, the EU countries presented a simplified border crossing regime for Ukrainians. None of the previously necessary rules were required. Pets could be chipped and vaccinated right at the border.
Now all requirements are in effect again:
- a pet has to be chipped;
- it has to be vaccinated against rabies no earlier than 30 days before departure;
- it has to have a valid European passport;
- a pet needs a medical certificate, given 5 days before departure as well as the antibody test.
The whole preparation process takes about 4 months.
Chipping, vaccinations, and a passport will cost the pets' owners UAH1,500-2000. An antibody test costs around UAH2000-4000. However, it's not required everywhere.
On July 25, Poland allows crossing the border without a certificate or a test.
