Lviv to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 35% by 2030

Lviv is one step closer to strengthening energy security — by 2030, the city will reduce CO2 emissions by at least 35%.

Andriy Moskalenko, the First Deputy Mayor of Lviv, reports this on Facebook.

For this to happen, the decision for Lviv to join the European initiative "Agreement of Mayors – East" was supported today at the meeting of the executive committee.

According to the "Agreement of Mayors", Lviv is obliged to:

  • improve energy efficiency to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 35% by 2030;
  • ensure climate neutrality by 2050;
  • increase resilience to climate change by applying the principle of adaptation to climate change.

Moskalenko noted that the Action Plan for Sustainable Energy Development became the basis for the development of the Action Plan for Sustainable Energy Development and Climate of the Lviv City Territorial Community by 2030, which was also approved today at a meeting of the executive committee.

The expected emission reduction from the base year 2008 to the reporting year 2030 is 941 thousand tons or 37.7%.
