More than 600,000 people evacuated from Kharkiv by railway - Head of Regional State Administration
More than 600,000 people were evacuated from Kharkiv by train, and the roads were congested.
This was announced by the Head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration Oleh Synehubov on a joint broadcast of Ukrainian TV channels, UP reports.
"Speaking of evacuation from Kharkiv, we have sent more than 600,000 people by rail so far. If we take vehicles, both the Kyiv and Lviv directions continue to be congested," he said.
Sinehubov confirmed that the situation in Izium remains quite difficult.
"Yesterday, Russian troops tried to get there. They failed; we drove them away. But they continue to keep the city under siege, preventing the delivery of humanitarian goods and the evacuation of the population," said the head of the region.
According to Sinehubov, the Ukrainian military is holding its ground.
"The fighting spirit is very high. Every day, they receive new weapons. People go to the territorial defense. We are forming new military formations and strengthening existing units," he said.
It should be noted that Kharkiv has been under fire since the beginning of the war, the city suffered significant damage, but Russian troops failed to capture it.
