Today is World Porridge Day. The holiday was initiated by the organizers of the International Porridge Making Championship, which has been held annually in Carrbridge (Scotland) since 1994. At the championship, porridge fans from all over the world compete in cooking oatmeal in the water with salt, which is a traditional Scotch dish, and for fans of experiments, there is a separate nomination for the best variation of oatmeal. For example, in 2020, the main prize, Golden Spurtle, a gilded porridge mixer, went to Chris Young from Perthshire (Scotland) for the recipe Crunch sa Bheul, the author's version of croquembouche dessert made of oatmeal, sugar, and butter, soaked in cream and caramel.
