Today, October 25, local elections are taking place in Ukraine. Electing local council deputies, mayors, and heads of united territorial communities take place every five years, and it seems that we'll remember this year for a long time. Not only are these elections being held in the coronavirus pandemic's midst in Ukraine (over 6,000 new cases have been announced today), but Volodymyr Zelenskyi has also conducted a "nationwide poll." We've already written on its legality, expediency, and true motives here.
As of 16:00, according to OPORA, the turnout across the country was only 27%. Low turnout, however, did not reduce the amount of confusion that occurs at (and near) polling stations. We have gathered for you the most interesting things that happened there today.
Zelenskyi's poll may have become the hottest topic in these local elections and kept the bar high. Negligence reports began to emerge in the morning. In some places, the "volunteers" were minors. Apparently, those were the students of schools where polling stations were placed:
