Tim Kaine has served as a senator from Virginia since 2013. He was the governor of Virginia from 2006 to 2010 and chaired the Democratic National Committee from 2009 to 2011.
He is a member of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and is a leading voice on foreign policy issues.
He has repeatedly expressed support for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.
In his previous statements, Kaine emphasized that the security of Europe is critically important for the national interests of the United States.
For reference:
During the time of the previous US President Joe Biden, Ukraine received powerful military support from America.
Senator Tim Kaine, who is a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, warned in 2024 that the package approved by the Senate at that time was likely to face serious obstacles in the House of Representatives, where more and more Republicans opposed additional aid to Ukraine.
However, the situation with US support changed after Donald Trump became president. On March 4, it became known that the United States, after a public dispute with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, suspended all military aid to Ukraine, including that ordered to be allocated by former President Joe Biden.
Currently, the main assistance comes from partners in Europe.
Volodymyr Zelensky previously stated that Ukraine is prepared to purchase future aid packages from the United States, including Patriot systems and other weapons.
