Actor Liev Schreiber and fashion designer Julia Haart raise over $25,000 to aid Ukrainian children

On Labor Day, the Mriia Gallery held a special event in East Hampton, a village in New York. The event raised 1.3 million Ukrainian hryvnias to aid children affected by the war in Ukraine. The funds will support the organization BlueCheck Ukraine, founded by Liev Schreiber and backed by former leaders of Doctors Without Borders, directors, and social entrepreneurs.

Rubryka reports this.

The guests appreciated a wide-ranging art collection featuring pieces from the Mriia Gallery and Rukh Art Hub showcasing Ukrainian artists. They also enjoyed private exhibitions from Scott Baxter, who generously hosted the event on his estate. This event highlighted Ukrainian culture and raised awareness for critical humanitarian causes.

Julia Haart, a renowned fashion designer and the star of the Netflix series "My Unorthodox Life," shared her experience of delivering ambulances to Bakhmut and stressed the significance of supporting Ukraine's fight for freedom.

"There are moments when you realize that your place has more meaning," Haart said. "The struggle that is taking place in Ukraine today is a battle for freedom, and we must stand with them!"

She also purchased the night's opening piece, titled "In Bloom No. 6," by the modern artist Dasha S. Kandinska. Dasha was born in Kyiv and currently resides in Switzerland. She comes from the Kandinsky family lineage.

Liev Schreiber, co-founder of BlueCheck Ukraine, thanked the guests:

"Although I couldn't be there in person, your presence and contributions mean everything to us," Schreiber said. "As Ukraine defends itself against a brutal and multifaceted attack by Russia, it is more important than ever to define and strengthen Ukrainian culture and identity. The best defense against any attempted genocide is a broad acceptance of the humanity and culture at its core. They are simply fighting for the right to exist — to raise their children and their children's children as Ukrainians."

For reference:

Liev Schreiber, an American actor, has been nominated for the prestigious Golden Globe Award six times and has also won a Tony Award. He is not only a renowned movie star, film writer, producer, and director, but also a devoted ambassador for Ukraine. Although he was born in San Francisco, Schreiber has Ukrainian roots.

When Ukraine was under Russia's attack, Schreiber actively offered his help. He started the BlueCheck Ukraine initiative, cooked borscht for refugees at a train station in Przemyśl with the humanitarian organization World Central Kitchen, visited Lviv to support the "Ukraine Needs You" project which provides psychological aid, and was appointed as an official ambassador for UNITED24's Medical Aid division on July 6, 2022.

During another trip to Ukraine, Schreiber joined his fellow ambassador Andriy Schevchenko in visiting the towns of Bucha and Borodianka, which suffered greatly during the Russian invasion in spring of 2022. The two ambassadors launched the "24,000 Friends of Ukraine" project, encouraging individuals to make a monthly donation of $24 to UNITED24.
