American Actor and Co-Founder of BlueCheck Ukraine, Liev Schreiber, Becomes UNITED24 Ambassador for Medical and Humanitarian Aid
UNITED24 (U24), the official fundraising platform launched by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, today announced that American actor, director and producer Liev Schreiber has become an ambassador for medical and humanitarian aid. President Zelenskyy held an online meeting today with Schreiber.
The collaboration is part of a new partnership launched between Schreiber's charity initiative, BlueCheck Ukraine, and UNITED24, to efficiently raise additional funding from donors and disburse funds in Ukraine.
Schreiber, a popular Hollywood actor, five-time Golden Globe nominee and three-time Emmy nominee, is of Ukrainian heritage. His grandfather emigrated from a village in southern Ukraine almost a century ago.
Since the first days of the war, Schreiber has been assisting Ukraine. In March, this help transformed into the BlueCheck Ukraine charity initiative. In just four months, BlueCheck Ukraine funded psychological support programs, the evacuation of over 20,000 orphans from orphanages in the Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv, Odesa, and Mykolaiv regions, granted financial support to more than 700 families, and opened a new refugee center in Lviv.
"We are sure that Ukrainians know better what kind of help they need exactly," Schreiber said during the Zoom meeting with President Zelenskyy. "We took interest in the partnership with UNITED24 so that aid would go directly to Ukraine; so that the funds are not delayed somewhere in bank accounts abroad, but used to save lives and to meet the actual needs of Ukrainians instead."
"We are going through a very difficult time now, even more difficult than at the beginning of the war," noted President Zelenskyy during the meeting. "Because people, both in Ukraine and Europe, are starting to get tired of the war. So we really need support from famous people like you, Liev, the ones who would remind everyone that the war is far from over. And that we fight for our common values, for democracy, which is important both for Ukraine and for the world."
