United to win: Spain delivers new batch of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine

On July 15, Spain started transferring a new batch of military aid to Ukraine. It includes ten Leopard 2A4 battle tanks, several backhoe loaders, and many anti-tank missiles.
The Ministry of Defense of Spain reported this in its press release.
"The multimodal transportation of 10 Leopard 2A4 battle tanks to Ukraine has begun after the completion of the overhaul, adjustment, and readiness process at the Santa Bárbara Sistemas plant in Alcalá de Guadaira (Seville) and passing the relevant tests for verification," the message reads.
The agency noted that a new batch of aid will arrive in Poland this weekend and be delivered to the Ukrainian military.
"Ukraine's armed forces will be responsible for the last stage of movement through the territory of Ukraine before it is handed over to the operational units of the Ukrainian army," the message says.
The Spanish Ministry of Defense recalled that ground transport carried out the first stage of the transport of military aid from Seville to Ferrol last week.
With this new batch of Leopard 2A4s, Spain has already delivered 20 such tanks to Ukraine and plans to prepare or deliver another new set during the second half of 2024.

The German Leopard 2A4 is a main battle tank known for its firepower, improved protection, and overall performance. It is armed with a 120mm L55 smoothbore gun, a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun, and a 7.62mm anti-aircraft machine gun mounted on the loader's hatch.
In terms of protection, the tank has standard multi-layer armor reinforced in the front part of the turret. The inner part of the tower is equipped with anti-collision tabs, which increases the safety of the four-person crew.
The tank develops a maximum speed of 72 km/h and has a range of 500 km. The Leopard 2A4 is equipped with advanced technologies, including an infrared night vision device and a system of protection against nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) weapons, which enhances its combat capabilities. Many countries use the tank.
Earlier, the mass media reported that Spain is preparing a new aid package for Ukraine, the preparation of which can be completed by June 30.
The journalists indicated, among other things, that Ukraine should receive 10 Leopard 2A4 tanks. At the same time, Spain had already transferred military aid to Ukraine, which included the tanks mentioned above.
