The Lviv City Council reported that.
What is the problem?
People create waste throughout their entire lives. With the constant production of goods and the emphasis on consumerism, this issue has only been magnified, leaving very few open spaces in landfills.
Currently, Ukraine is 46th out of 109 countries due to environmental pollution.
Landfills accumulate over 12.4 billion tons of garbage, polluting the environment with toxic substances and posing a threat to our health.
Every year, every Ukrainian produces from 300 to 500 kg of waste, of which ONLY 15 kg is recycled.
To solve this problem and reduce the amount of waste, it is proposed that garbage sorting and recycling be popularized.
What is the solution?
Fifteen educational institutions in the Lviv community are already sorting waste.
How does it work?
Recently, Lyceum named after Vasyl Simonenko (6 V. Simonenko St.) and comprehensive secondary school No. 72 (1 Zubrivska St.) joined the project "Separate Collection of Household Waste in Lviv City Community Schools".
Based on information from the Lviv Communal Enterprise "Lvivspetskomuntrans," containers for all types of waste have been installed on the premises of these schools. These include containers for:
Thanks to colorful containers with bright inscriptions and images, children will be able to easily remember where and what exactly to throw away.
"Modern container sites with bright and informative stickers will make the process of sorting waste interesting and informative for children. And the habit of caring for the environment, properly sorting waste, will become an integral part of the lives of our young, conscious Ukrainians," Lviv Communal Enterprise is convinced.
In general, 15 educational institutions joined the waste sorting project.
For reference:
Earlier, Rubryka discussed extensively how to implement garbage sorting in a city, unveiling the secrets of the "Ukraine without garbage" facility.
Rubryka also reported that in 2021, Liubotyn signed a commitment to reduce the amount of residual waste and became the second city candidate after Lviv on the way to becoming a zero waste certified city.
Additionally, a new sorting capsule was launched recently in Kyiv's Lukianivka area.
In addition, Rubryka reported that garbage sorting containers were installed near schools and kindergartens in Chernivtsi. 4 containers of different colors were placed near each institution.
