The department's press service reported this.
What is the problem?
Not only the enemy but also the Ukrainians themselves are causing damage to the environment, driven by the desire for economic profit or personal gain rather than the collective well-being.
People are accustomed to seeing an abundance of primroses, especially ramsons, being sold in the springtime.
However, ramsons are included in the Red Book; therefore, fines from UAH 1,700 to UAH 3,650 are provided for its uprooting and sale.
Furthermore, one cannot pick, purchase, or trade snowdrops, crocuses, and other early spring flowers in Ukraine. Engaging in such activities can result in a penalty ranging from UAH 510 to UAH 3,655.
However, it is worth noting that most Ukrainians simply do not have information about biodiversity subject to protection.
What is the solution?
Environmental organizations and activists closely monitor and raise awareness about potential environmental threats.
It is essential to join their initiatives and thus create public pressure that officials or irresponsible businesses can no longer ignore.
Therefore, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources developed the Biodiversity Viewer application for biodiversity protection.
How does it work?
"This online tool, in a matter of minutes, provides information about biological species subject to special protection and also allows you to make an express assessment of a specific territory for the presence of such species.
Therefore, the online application will significantly facilitate the participants' work in the Environmental impact assessment and SEO process. The system already contains about 2.5 million data," the message emphasized.
The application will be presented on February 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.

Biodiversity Viewer is an open-source software developed by the NGO "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" and The Habitat Foundation.
The Biodiversity Viewer application simplifies the decision-making process for biodiversity protection.
For reference:
It should be noted that a new primeval natural monument of local importance was created in the Zhytomyr region.
In addition, a new Environmental Impact Assessment Register has been launched in Ukraine on the national online platform, which contains up-to-date information on the state of the environment.
Ecorubric also launched a series of articles on UNESCO biosphere reserves — those occupied, on the demarcation line, and deep in the rear. Rubryka tells how the war affects these territories so that the world learns more about the lives of people and nature in Ukraine.
In this article, Rubryka explores the innovative pairing of nature conservation and trade development within the Danube Biosphere Reserve. Learn more in our piece: "Water buffaloes, stocking and cargo ships: how the Danube Biosphere Reserve lives."
