Ukraine offers grants to NGOs fighting corruption
Ukrainian public organizations involved in anti-corruption activities can participate in the competition and receive a grant of up to $150,000.
The NGO Prostir reports that "Support of leading organizations in combating corruption in Ukraine" is a corruption prevention project implemented by Management Systems International of the TetraTech group of companies, Ukraine's State Special Communications Service, and USAID.
What is the problem?
Ukraine ranks 116th in the latest ranking by Global Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2022. In the last years, it has risen six places, and now Ukraine scores 33 points (0 means "highly corrupt" to 100, meaning "not corrupt," according to Kyiv Post, which obtained data from the global anti-corruption movement Transparency International (TI).
What is the solution?
The organizers aim to implement projects that increase public support and involvement in anti-corruption activities and increase the transparency and accountability of the work of authorities during the war in the transitional and post-war periods. The project expects innovative ideas and results-oriented approaches.
How does it work?
The initiatives that will receive the grant will contribute to the achievement of the following results:
- increased involvement of citizens in the fight against corruption in the field of humanitarian aid and post-war reconstruction;
- strengthening the prerequisites for public monitoring of integrity in the field of humanitarian aid and post-war reconstruction;
- the growth of public support and involvement in anti-corruption activities, as well as increasing the transparency and accountability of the work of government bodies;
- strengthening the prerequisites for effective search, arrest, and confiscation of assets of individuals and legal entities connected with Russian war crimes.
- Registered Ukrainian non-profit organizations of civil society (civil unions, volunteer organizations, charitable foundations, analytical centers, scientific institutions, and information agencies) are invited to submit applications.
Public organizations can focus on the following areas:
- monitoring integrity in the field of humanitarian aid and creating effective mechanisms for receiving and distributing humanitarian aid;
- facilitating the search, seizure, and confiscation of assets related to individuals and legal entities against whom the Ukrainian authorities or foreign jurisdictions have imposed sanctions in connection with Russia's invasion of Ukraine;
- advocacy, mobilization, research, monitoring, and other initiatives that will contribute to the transparency of post-war reconstruction measures, in particular, to create the basis for effective management and control of reconstruction financing;
- research, analysis, and public communication on corruption to build international support for anti-corruption reforms related to Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations;
- networking and collaboration with partners and the public, aimed at highlighting the importance of a transparent and accountable reconstruction process.
The grant for the organization will be an amount in hryvnias, equivalent to an amount between $10,000 and $150,000. The deadline for submitting concepts is June 30, 2023.
