Czech Parliament authorized training of Ukrainian military on its territory

The Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament decided to allow the stay of the Ukrainian military for training on the country's territory.

As noted in the publication, the Chamber of Deputies also approved sending Czech military personnel to train Ukrainians in other EU member states and a mandate for two other foreign missions in Kosovo and Iraq.

This proposal, which the government approved in mid-November, has yet to be considered by Czech senators. It is expected to happen on Thursday.

According to preliminary information from the Military Committee, the training will occur at the Libavá Military Training Area. Training Ukrainian soldiers in the Czech Republic will concern mechanized units and special professions.

By the end of next year, according to government documents, there will be five four-week tours, each of which will involve up to 800 Ukrainian soldiers.

"The main emphasis will be placed on the training of new or mobilized Ukrainian soldiers, the operation of weapons systems, the management of planning processes, that is, on all measures necessary for the successful fight against the russian aggressor," the legislators emphasize in the document.

The training is based on a bilateral agreement between the Czech Republic's and Ukraine's governments, but in the future, it will be transferred to an EU support mission. EU defense ministers agreed on the need to prepare a training mission at an informal meeting in Prague in August.

Subsequently, the Czech Republic should allocate up to 55 people to the EU mission, who will operate on the territory of other EU countries.
