Norway to allocate €264 mln for humanitarian and refugee assistance in Ukraine

The Norwegian government will allocate 3 billion Norwegian kroner (264.7 million euros) in 2025 for humanitarian support to Ukraine and assistance to refugees in neighboring countries.

The Norwegian government stated this.

"Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure, power supplies, hospitals, schools, and residential buildings continue at full force, and more and more Ukrainians are forced to evacuate or leave their homes every day.

At a time when international humanitarian funding for Ukraine is being reduced, Norway will continue to remain a reliable donor to efforts aimed at protecting the civilian population and saving lives," Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said.

As noted, this funding is part of the 12.5 billion kroner (1.1 billion euros) that Norway is allocating for civilian assistance to Ukraine and Moldova in 2025.

Funding will be channeled through humanitarian organizations such as:

• UN organizations,
• ICRC,
• as well as Norwegian and international non-governmental organizations.

Priority is given to providing protection and humanitarian assistance through shelter, food, water and sanitation, electricity and heating, education, health care, and psychosocial support to millions of displaced persons and other Ukrainians in need.

The statement reads that funding will also be directed to activities to:

• counter sexual violence,
• demining operations.

As reported, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and Minister of Labor and Integration Tonje Brenna visited Kyiv on Wednesday. They met with senior Ukrainian officials in Kyiv and visited Kharkiv.

For reference:

President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Norway on March 20 and held several meetings. Other details about the Ukrainian President's program in Norway were not disclosed for security reasons.

However, on this day, the Norwegian company Nammo, which produces ammunition, and one of the Ukrainian enterprises of the defense-industrial complex signed a statement on strategic cooperation, which provides for creating a joint venture to produce 155-mm shells.

Furthermore, Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace plans to produce hundreds of missiles for NASAMS air defense systems in Ukraine. The company is exploring the possibility establishing joint ventures "within a few months."

In addition, Norway has allocated a new package of financial assistance to Ukraine. The funds will be used to purchase additional air defense equipment in the United States under the JUMPSTART program.
