UNDP and EU deliver 16 special ambulances to Ukraine

The Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine Centers have received 16 ambulances from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, supported by the European Union (EU) and in collaboration with Ukraine's Ministry of Health, to address the urgent healthcare needs of patients amid the ongoing conflict.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported this.

The vehicles will strengthen the emergency medical care system and contribute to a faster response to critical challenges, especially in war-affected communities.

"The rapid response of medical services to emergencies is one of the key tasks of an effective healthcare system. Thanks to the support of the EU and UNDP, medical workers have additional resources to reach patients even in the most remote areas. The new vehicles will be an important reinforcement for doctors who work tirelessly in difficult conditions to benefit communities," Mariia Karchevych, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization, said.

The eight B-type vehicles are designed for transporting and providing basic medical care to patients who are not in critical condition. They come equipped with equipment for monitoring vital signs, oxygen support, and essential resuscitation tools, including a defibrillator, electrocardiograph, and devices for measuring blood pressure, saturation, and pulse. These vehicles ensure access to emergency medical care, even in the most remote areas.

Another eight C-type vehicles act as resuscitation vehicles and are used in critical situations, such as heart attacks, serious injuries, or other emergencies. They are equipped with everything necessary to stabilize patients before arriving at the hospital, which allows medical workers to quickly provide emergency care directly during transportation.

The transferred vehicles will be used to send medical workers to the most remote areas of the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Donetsk regions.

It should be noted that since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has received 1,482 vehicles as part of humanitarian aid, of which 73 are armored.

The procurement and transfer of specialized vehicles is part of UNDP's broader efforts to strengthen the health system, aimed at recovery and development at the local level. It includes reforming emergency medical care in Ukraine, strengthening the material and technical base, and increasing the human resource capacity of medical institutions. The initiative is implemented within the framework of the flagship partnership between UNDP and the EU, "EU4Recovery – Empowering communities in Ukraine".
