Absolute majority of Ukrainians support ceasefire only with security guarantees — survey

Ukrainians firmly oppose any negotiations between the United States and Russia to end the war without Kyiv's involvement. The vast majority also believe that Ukraine should agree to a ceasefire only if it receives security guarantees.

According to Rubryka, these findings come from a survey conducted by the sociological group "Rating" on February 20-21. The survey was carried out via telephone interviews using a random sample of mobile phone numbers.

The results show that 91% of Ukrainians strongly reject any US-Russia negotiations to end the war without Ukraine's participation. They believe that normalizing relations between Kyiv and Moscow would be harmful to both Ukraine and the European Union.

Meanwhile, 64% of Ukrainians support direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, and this number continues to grow. Additionally, 81% of respondents view finding a compromise with the involvement of other countries as a realistic path to ending the war.

However, 83% of Ukrainians insist that Ukraine should only agree to a ceasefire if security guarantees are provided.

The survey included 1,200 respondents aged 18 and older from all regions of Ukraine, excluding the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas, as well as areas without Ukrainian mobile communication at the time of the survey. The sample is representative of age, gender, and type of settlement, with a margin of error of no more than 2.8%.

Previously, President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine aims to reclaim its temporarily occupied territories through diplomatic means to preserve human lives. He also stated that Ukraine will never legally recognize occupied regions as part of Russia but is open to discussing their diplomatic return if Ukraine joins NATO.

Furthermore, Zelensky believes that the United States is trying to "appease" Russian President Vladimir Putin by seeking a quick resolution to the war.
