Russia’s missile strike on Zaporizhzhia kills one and injures 24, including a baby and rescuers

In the early hours of January 23, Russian forces carried out a missile strike on Zaporizhzhia, reportedly using Iskander ballistic missiles. The attack hit residential areas, killing one man and injuring 24 others, including a two-month-old baby and four State Emergency Service personnel.

The head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, reported that.

Around 3:45 a.m., Ukraine's Air Force reported enemy tactical air activity in the east and warned of a potential threat from enemy aerial weapons.

Later, the head of the region said that the Russian invaders had launched four missile strikes on the city.

"The enemy is hitting the city again. At least four explosions were heard in Zaporizhzhia. Preliminary, there are casualties. An alarm has been declared throughout the region. Do not neglect safety rules!" he wrote.

As of 05:00 a.m., according to the head of the regional military administration, the number of injured in Zaporizhzhia had increased to 16 people. Five of them were in serious condition.

"Medics assess the condition of five more people as moderate. Among them are two employees of the State Emergency Service. The others will be on outpatient treatment after the doctors help," the head of the regional military administration specified.

A two-month-old child was also injured by the Russian strike – she was taken to the hospital in the morning. There are also injured emergency workers.

"Among the injured are four employees of the State Emergency Service. They were taken to the hospital," Fedorov reported.

The regional military administration confirmed that the Russian missile attack on Zaporizhzhia claimed the life of one person: a 47-year-old man died.

As of 07:35 a.m. on Thursday, the number of injured people had increased to 24 people. Medics were providing emergency assistance to everyone. Rescuers, law enforcement officers and psychologists continued to work at the scene of the attacks.

At the same time, the monitor Telegram channel stated that, according to preliminary data, the Russian occupiers used Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles to strike Zaporizhzhia.

It should be noted that this is the second attack on Zaporizhzhia on the night of January 23. The enemy attacked Zaporizhzhia on the evening of January 22. As a result of Russian shelling, a fire broke out in one of the city districts.

According to Fedorov, the enemy had previously launched five strikes with Shahed UAVs on the city. All emergency services were sent to eliminate it.
