Lviv hosts international BookForum, with 9,000 guests, authors, and intellectuals from 18 countries participating

In early October, Lviv BookForum, the 31st international literary festival, was held in Lviv, both in-person and streamed online. The central theme was "The Power of Cooperation." Participants explored post-colonialism in Ukraine and globally through the lens of Ukrainian history and current events as part of the theme. They also discussed the influence of public activism and youth, national memory, and international conflicts.

It should be noted that authors and intellectuals from 18 different countries participated in various events at the 31st Lviv BookForum International Literary Festival.

Over 9,000 guests participated in the discussions and had live chats with the authors.

This year's BookForum was attended by the winner of the Booker Prize, Salman Rushdie (Britain), researcher of postcolonialism Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak (India), journalist David Remnick (USA), Oscar laureate Vasilisa Stepanenko, literary critic and writer Myroslav Shkandrij (Canada), writer Sofiia Andrukhovych, philosopher Vakhtang Kebuladze, poets and poets Ostap Slyvynsky, Yuliia Musakovska, Yaryna Chornohuz, Kateryna Mikhalitsyna and others.

Specifically, the visitors attended and took part in:

• the unveiling of Vasyl Shkliar's latest novel, "Hare Church,"

• conversations on Russian propaganda with contributions from Ukrainian diplomat and former foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba,

• engaging activities for children led by author Yevhenia Zavaliy,

• presentations by Dara Korniy and Halyna Vdovychenko,

• and a discussion about the debut collection of short stories by Roman Holubovskyi, the creator of the satirical publication UaReview.

Meanwhile, the event's media partners have garnered almost 412,000 views on their broadcasted channels. Viewers can still access the festival's entries on the official BookForum Facebook page and YouTube.

The festival included a total of 24 events in the curatorial program, as well as 120 events hosted by publishing houses and partners. 28 Ukrainian publishing houses were represented at the festival.

According to Sofiia Cheliak, the festival's program director, they are already collaborating with partners to plan the next event in 2025.
