United to win: Canada pledges $50 million in military support to Ukraine

Canada will provide Ukraine with a military aid package worth 64.8 million Canadian dollars (47 million US dollars), which will include ammunition, small arms, and protective equipment.

The aid package, including funds for Ukrainian troop training, is part of the C$500 million military funding package Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged in July.

"The military assistance announced today provides Ukraine with essential resources to defend itself against Russian aggression.

Canada will continue to do what it takes to help them achieve victory," Blair said.

Canada, one of Kyiv's most consistent supporters internationally, said last month that it would give Ukraine:

• 80,840 surplus small unarmed air-to-surface missiles,
• also 1,300 warheads.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Canada has allocated 4.5 billion Canadian dollars in military aid.

It should be noted that in October, Canada allocated a loan of 400 million Canadian dollars (300 million US dollars) to Ukraine. Canada has been among Ukraine's top five donors of budgetary support since February 2022.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Canada has provided direct budget support of $5.4 billion. In 2024, Canada has already allocated $1.9 billion in loans.

On the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced an additional package of military support for Ukraine totaling 500 million Canadian dollars.

Moreover, at the end of October 2023, at a meeting of advisers on national security and foreign policy, Canadian representatives proposed creating a coalition of countries that would facilitate the return of Ukrainian children deported by the aggressor country.
