Massive drone and missile attack targets Russian key air bases, including Savasleyka and Baltimore airfields

On the night of August 14, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported a large-scale assault utilizing drones and missiles. Residents reported attacks on air bases, specifically the MiG31K Kinzhal missile carrier base in Savasleyka. There are also indications that the Baltimore Airfield near Voronezh may have been targeted.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Russian Telegram channel Astra reported that.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has declared that they successfully eliminated four tactical missiles and 117 aircraft drones overnight.

The majority of these drones were reportedly taken down in the Kursk and Voronezh regions, with 37 each.

Additional reports claim they were also intercepted over Belgorod, Nizhniy Novgorod, Volgograd, Bryansk, and Rostov regions.

According to the Astra Telegram channel, drones were seen flying over the settlements of Veletma and Savasleyka in the Nizhniy Novgorod region in the morning.

Local sources reported that there were approximately 10 hits at the military air base Savasleyka and that the surrounding area was blocked off.

This airbase houses the MiG-31 jets, which carry Kinzhal missiles used by the Russian Federation in bombing Ukraine.

According to open data, a branch of the 4th State Center for the Training of Aviation Personnel and Military Tests of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation is located at the nearby air base, which is 12 km northwest of the city of Kulebyaki.

Gleb Nikitin, governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, said that air defense forces and electronic warfare systems were working to suppress the attack in the region.

"The necessary operative and emergency services are working on the spot, and all measures are being taken to minimize the consequences. According to preliminary information, there are no victims at the moment," a local official reported.

Meanwhile, in the Voronezh region, Governor Aleksandr Gusev said that there were no victims, but there were several damaged objects of residential and non-residential real estate, communal infrastructure, as well as vehicles.

At the same time, residents reported at night that the Borysoglebsk military airfield caught fire after the UAV attack, but there is no confirmation yet, Astra reports.

Planes depart from the airfield in Baltimore, which, according to monitoring sources, has been responsible for launching the highest number of guided bombs over Ukraine.

It is worth mentioning that there was a previous attack on the Lipetsk airfield, resulting in a significant decrease in guided aerial bombs. This was due to the destruction of a major weapons storage facility and a workshop used for servicing these bombs.

The governor of the Voronezh region, Aleksandr Gusev, in his Telegram post, announced the alleged destruction of several UAVs. According to him, there is no information about the damage to the victims.

Vyacheslav Gladkov, head of the Belgorod region, reported a potential attack by Ukrainians on multiple settlements. He later mentioned that a drone had struck a group vehicle, resulting in the driver being hospitalized in critical condition.

The leaders of the Volgograd, Bryansk, Kursk, and Rostov regions did not report any casualties.

The Russians have accused Ukraine of carrying out the attacks. However, the Ukrainian authorities and the Security and Defense Forces have yet to respond to these accusations.

For reference:

According to reports, towards the end of last week, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully attacked strategic targets on Russian territory, causing significant damage to the Russian airfield Lipetsk, which subsequently caught fire.

As a result of the night attack, warehouses with guided aerial bombs and a number of other objects in the vicinity of the airport were hit. Several sources of ignition were recorded, a strong fire broke out, and multiple detonations were observed.

Moreover, at the beginning of August, the Defense Forces "cleared" the airfield Morozovsk of anti-aircraft missiles and fighters.

At that point, the General Staff officially confirmed the use of drones by Ukraine's armed forces to attack the Morozovsk airfield near Rostov. The targeted warehouse containing ammunition was successfully hit.
