Ukrainian startup raises $525,000 to produce jam-proof radios for soldiers

Ukrainian defense-tech startup Himera has raised $525,000 in investment to develop secure military radios resistant to Russian electronic warfare, dev.ua reports.

What is the problem?

One of the most essential needs is secure communications. Ukrainian forces need reliable radio that will not be intercepted.

A military radio gives the soldiers a critical capability when needed. Communication within a combat team is required in difficult terrain, urban environments, etc.

Ukraine's digital minister Mykhailo Fedorov said that Russia is constantly using electronic warfare to counter Ukrainian troops, including jamming the military's radios.

What is the solution?

To ensure the military is always in touch and can effectively coordinate the work of their units, Ukrainian developers have created the Himera radio station.

A defense-tech startup that has developed secure tactical military radios beyond Russian electronic warfare's reach, has raised $525,000 in investment.

At the end of February 2024, the startup received a new investment from the Lviv-based United Angels Network, launched in January 2024, and a number of private investors. Most of them are anonymous.

How does it work?

The HIMERA G1 HANDHELD RADIO is a compact digital radio for communication at a distance of up to 2 km at the platoon level.

The radio is almost invisible on the air thanks to frequency hopping, and low power of the radio.

It is already being used by Ukrainian soldiers on the front line. The cost of one such device, according to the developers, is over $100.

The walkie-talkies are assembled in Ukraine, and most of the elements used are domestic.

The startup plans to release the next generation of the product and receive a government order for it. The new Himera G1 Pro radio model is ready to be launched on the market.

According to Himera co-founder Mykhailo Rudominsky, this version will be available for a moderate price, which is slightly higher than the previous generation.

"The big task for this year is to move from the level of radio stations to a full-fledged communication system."
