Canada proposes coalition of states to facilitate return of Ukrainian children

Canadian representatives proposed  creating a coalition of countries to facilitate the return of Ukrainian children deported by Russia at a meeting of national security and foreign policy advisers.

What is the problem?

Since the beginning of the full-scale war of Ukraine, Russia has been deporting Ukrainian children from the occupied territories on a massive scale.

They are being deported to Crimea, Russia or Belarus, allegedly for "rehabilitation" or to rest in camps.

The Kremlin is actively encouraging Russians to adopt Ukrainian children and has simplified the procedure for granting Russian citizenship.

The Human Rights Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, said that Russia has already adopted 386 Ukrainian children who were illegally taken from the occupied territories by the occupiers.

First Lady Olena Zelenska said that Russia had taken about 19,500 children from Ukraine.

The process of their return is complicated and lengthy, as the Russians refuse to cooperate.

The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova in the case of the deportation of Ukrainian children.

The proposal for an international coalition is part of the plan to implement the Ukrainian Peace Formula, specifically addressing the return of deported children, the release of civilian hostages, and prisoners of war prepared and presented in Malta by an international working group that included representatives from nearly 30 countries and international organizations.

Furthermore, there are thousands of Ukrainian servicemen currently held in Russian captivity who are in need of assistance. Russia has not granted access to international organizations such as the UN and ICRC for monitoring their conditions.
