Ukraine’s First Lady visits Aleris rehabilitation center in Sweden to support war-affected civilians

Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska visited the Aleris Rehab Station, a high-level rehabilitation center for the Ukrainian military and civilians in Sweden

She says 36 Ukrainian servicemen and 49 civilians with mine-blast injuries, cancerous diseases, and other complex illnesses were evacuated to Sweden for treatment after the start of the full-scale war. Aleris Rehab Station is responsible for their rehabilitation.

All medical and wellness activities at the Aleris Center are aimed at helping patients maintain and resume an active role in society and feel confident, fulfilled, and barrier-free.

This is exactly what we want for our citizens and our country. So there is something to learn from. I am glad to personally visit the Aleris Center and thank its doctors and managers for what they do for Ukrainians, the First Lady said.

Zelenska met the center's CEO and Sweden's minister for health to discuss the rehabilitation process and future projects.

At a time when there are so many threats to the physical and mental health of people on the planet, we hope to establish an international medical partnership, fast, decisive, innovative in saving lives, the First Lady emphasized.

This will mean assistance in the treatment, rehabilitation, and prosthetics of the wounded. Ukrainian institutions will receive targeted international reinforcement, and foreign specialists will have the opportunity to learn from their Ukrainian colleagues' experience in emergency situations.

During the meeting, the First Lady proposed to establish direct cooperation between the Aleris Rehabilitation Center and the Ukrainian State Medical and Social Center for War Veterans.

Previously, Zelensky met with the Swedish PM to discuss joint CV-90 armored vehicle production. The states a memorandum and reaffirmed the support during the full-scale war. 

The talks focused on military assistance, the development of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the defense industry, Ukraine's EU integration, and the Euro-Atlantic security guarantees.
