Ukrainian president’s team to present peace plan in February – WSJ

On or around February 24, 2023, the first anniversary of russia's invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's team plans to present a peace plan.

The Wall Street Journal reports, citing European and Ukrainian diplomats.

As WSJ reports, according to European and Ukrainian diplomats, Zelensky's team is currently filling the peace plan with concrete content. It intends to present the ideas on the first anniversary of russia's invasion on or around February 24.

"Amid all the talk of fighting and weapons, Mr. Zelensky dangled hope of negotiations. The Ukrainian president's talk Thursday of a peace formula follows recent discussion by Kyiv of a 10-point peace plan," the publication says.

At the same time, the publication says the official representatives of the USA, Ukraine, and NATO stated that Ukraine's position at any possible negotiations, where it will probably demand significant concessions from Moscow, would depend on its position on the battlefield. Therefore, Kyiv wants to prepare for possible peace negotiations, having won military victories.

On November 15, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in his speech to the G20 Summit participants, presented Ukraine's 10-point algorithm for achieving peace with russia.

The Ukrainian president wants "this aggressive russian war to end justly and based on the UN Charter and international law, and not not 'somehow.'"

"Ukraine should not be offered to conclude compromises with its conscience, sovereignty, territory, and independence. We respect the rules, and we are people of our word," Zelensky said in a speech.

Ukrainian peace plan involves:

• Radiation and nuclear safety.
• Food security.
• Energy security.
• Release of all prisoners and deportees.
• Implementation of the UN Charter and restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the world order.
• Withdrawal of russian troops and cessation of hostilities.
• Restoring justice.
• Anti-ecocide.
• Prevention of escalation.
• Confirmation of the end of the war.

In his opinion, implementing each specified point can work similarly, where the parties can be different states ready to take the lead in this or that decision.

In December, President Volodymyr Zelensky offered the partner countries to choose from the Ukrainian peace formula the points they can implement to eventually arrive at the necessary security architecture in the world.
