Biden and Stoltenberg will take part in a NATO summit to discuss Ukraine

US President Joe Biden and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will take part in the Bucharest Nine Summit at the level of heads of state, which will take place in a hybrid mode on Monday, May 10, in Bucharest.

The Head of the National Security Bureau (BBN) of Poland Paweł Soloch at a briefing on Monday, Ukrinform reports.

"Polish President Andrzej Duda and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis have sent invitations to both the NATO Secretary-General and the US President. They have both confirmed their participation, so NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, US President Joe Biden, and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will take part in the meeting this afternoon," Soloch said.

According to him, the meeting of the heads of state of the "nine" will be devoted primarily to security issues and will fit into the negotiations within the Three Seas initiative.

"Both of these formats, together with shaping the positions of Eastern European countries within the EU and NATO, will help build transatlantic contacts," the BBN chairperson said.

According to Soloch, the joint statement after the summit will mention security in the Black Sea basin and the situation in Ukraine.

"Without a doubt, the Ukrainian issue will be reflected there in some way," Soloch said.

The hybrid nature of the Bucharest Nine summit means that the presidents of Romania and Poland, as co-organizers of the event, will be in Bucharest in person, and the other leaders will join the summit online.

The Bucharest Nine was formed in 2015 at the initiative of Romania and Poland. It includes Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Bulgaria.
