A schoolgirl from Kyiv won gold at International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada

A student of the capital's lycee, Yelizaveta Lazarova won gold at the International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada (iCAN). Representatives of 60 countries took part in the competition.

Ukrainian girl presented the work "Improving the efficiency of a solar power plant with a solar energy concentrator." According to her, the primary advantage of the invention is environmental preservation.

The girl is studying in the 11th grade of the Polytechnic Lyceum of NTUU "KPI". Anastasia said that the path to victory was difficult. First, the girl passed the national selection, then she wrote a scientific paper in English, made a model, and only then deservingly represented Ukraine. It took several months.

"As for my work, it extends the use of alternative energy sources, such as solar energy. Since classic solar panels have low efficiency, I propose a design that will increase its efficiency by up to 30%, compared to 15%. If we talk about the system, it comprises a double-sided solar panel mounted vertically, and a reflector placed at a 45% angle below the surface of the panel. Everything is on a tracker; it's a photosystem that turns the panel to the sun during the day, because, for instance, in the morning or at sunset, the rays are at an acute angle to the solar panel, and an effective angle is a perpendicular," Yelizaveta said in a comment to Hromadske Radio.
