Ukraine’s government allocates over $120 mln for recovery of war-torn regions

Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has approved a support plan for war-torn regions worth over $120 million to develop recovery projects, says PM Denys Shmyhal.

These projects will be aimed at restoring the normal life of communities, he notes.

We are allocating $120 million from the state's fund for elimination of the consequences of aggression to the regions for the implementation of projects that will create the necessary conditions for restoring the normal life of communities, the prime-minister said.

Various Ukrainian regions submitted proposals for the allocation of the second tranche from the fund to start 529 restoration projects.

Funds have been directed to 133 top-priority projects, including those related to the restoration of residential buildings, educational institutions, hospitals, energy, and water supply facilities, as well as the construction of shelters, the minister stressed.

Ukrainian regions of Kharkiv, Kyiv and Mykolaiv received the most financial support to restore water supply, soils, critical infrastructure, and civilian housing.

We have to rebuild the infrastructure that is critically important for people's lives as soon as possible, Shmyhal concluded.

Ukrainian volunteers, along with the authorities, are working on the restoration slowly but surely. For example, the construction workers restored one of the high-rise buildings in ravaged Bucha.

Previously, the Kyiv regional military administration, along with UNDP, signed a memorandum of cooperation and large-scale restoration of 18 high-rise buildings. The project will return more than 4,000 residents to their homes.

As of June 27, a total of 12,108 objects damaged due to Russian military aggression have been fully or partially restored in the Kyiv region.
