How to make a hackathon successful?

Any event will be successful if it's relevant, interesting to the target audience, and organized in a way that people don't refuse to participate on the first day. With hackathons, their initiators have an additional task: to explain to the uninitiated why they should grasp the essence of what's happening. Let's talk about the main parameters of a successful hackathon.

Organizing a hackathon. Is it easy?

Organizing a hackathon. All events are organized according to the fundamental rules that help to make the event relevant, interesting, and solving certain problems. Therefore, one cannot do without a simple strategy and tactics, including during hackathons. To build them up and then convey to the public why it's imperative to participate, we answer the following questions in the most detailed and clear way:

  1. Why are we holding a hackathon?
  2. Who is it for and in what ways do you plan to attract the target audience?
  3. Is the event format online or offline?
  4. What is the budget and who are the partners, sponsors, media partners?
  5. Who will provide the cases and provide expert support to the teams on them?
  6. Who will you involve as experts, jury, and media partners?
  7. How do you organize a promotional campaign and who will it target: stages, communication channels, advertising messages (who do you want to attract: participants or sponsors, or maybe both), etc.?
