Harry Potter and (not) proper communication channels
Commercial Director's Blog: Issue #7 (aka owls, Dumbledore, and Hogwarts spam blog)
What is the problem?
Harry Potter is a real cultural phenomenon! This is a fact that is very difficult to argue with. How else to explain an entire generation (and not one) of people who were waiting on their eleventh birthday, not for a cake and gifts, but for an owl with a letter? Yeah, OWL!
And that is exactly what I would like to talk about today. Owls, portraits, fireplaces, enchanted coins are quite eccentric channels of information. Call me a Muggle, but the older I get, the more I'm interested in arguing such means of communication. And the thing is not about their eccentricity because it creates the charm of the magical world, where you can not get to the usual phones with Facebook. The thing is their limited number and outright inefficiency, which can not be corrected by the power of magic.
After all, let's remember that in the magical world, besides owls, there are at least a few newspapers, a magic radio (which was once used by the resistance movement), conversations through fireplaces, portraits, and mirrors. All this could be used to communicate with children from families of magicians. Of course, each of these tools also has its drawbacks, but at least it gives a chance for the rapid distribution of information, which is sometimes critical.
