What to do when your home is destroyed by bulldozers or destroyed NASU dormitory

For the residents of the dormitory of the National Academy of Sciences on Metrolohichna Street, the morning of January 11 began with broken windows. And it grew into silent contemplation of how their rooms, along with all their belongings, were bulldozed.

Rubryka explains what happened, who did it, and what people who stayed on the street should do.

What is the problem?

"We've lived here since 1984…"

January 11. 9 am. Near the dormitory on Metrolohichna Street, there are two groups of people. One just pulled another out into the street. And they watch in bewilderment as the bulldozer crawls closer and closer to the walls that have been their forced home for many years. Were. Till this moment.

They can't take things that are still inside.

They can't reach men in black covering their faces.

It is impossible to bring action from the police.

"And the TV, and the refrigerator, and the washing machine, the furniture… We've lived here since 1984," said one resident.

"I live nearby. Everything is as it is. The destruction of the dormitory and the survival of the people have been going on for a long time. The same developers cut down all the trees nearby (the locals' opposition gave nothing), and the Academy of Sciences has declared a carve-up of its Soviet heritage. It is strange that they lasted so long," a woman living next door wrote on social media.

"We asked to take things, but no. Only one of the boys brought me a fur coat, shoes, a hat, and a bag with a phone charger and all sorts of little things. God bless him," another former dormitory resident told reporters.
