Ukrainians ask to allow partner childbirth. Why it's important
Because of the pandemic, childbirths with the partner haven't been available in Ukraine for 10 months without an official decree from the Ministry of Health. We analyzed why it'd happened and what the delivery with the partner means for men and women
The practice of partner childbirth in Ukraine has existed for 15 years. According to the 2019 data of the "Prirodnі Prava Ukraina" public association, among 7 thousand women surveyed, in 76% of cases, the second partner was present at childbirth. This leads to the conclusion that partner childbirth is a fairly popular practice among Ukrainians. A 2017 Cochrane Library study, published by WHO on its website, suggests that the effect of consistently supporting a woman during labor is beneficial for both the woman in labor and the baby.
