Unusual needlework: how a Ukrainian woman knits and full things from her dogs' hair

Neonila Svetozarova creates products from hair sheared and combed from her two pets. How does she do it, and why do things made of dog hair have a rare value?

Have you ever thought, owners of cats and dogs, that the hair combed from your favorite pet would be enough for mittens or socks? Neonila Svetozarova from Takhtaulovo village near Poltava solved this problem: she took and made yarn from her dogs' hair. From it, she began making various products.

Neonila turned 55 this year, and for 20 years she has been knitting from dog hair. It all started as a hobby, as earlier the woman worked as a teacher of artistic culture and fine arts. Now her favorite activity has grown into a business: she sends big orders of the socks she knits to Germany. Foreigners often order knitted vests and even coats. She sends craft belts, mittens, felt boots, and dresses to owners all over the world: to the Baltics, France, Moldova. Dog hair belts are also in the sorceress's arsenal and are popular among Ukrainians in the Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
