The death of Hennadiy Kernes from the coronavirus, as expected, launched an enormous battle for power over Kharkiv. His former right hand Ihor Terekhov became the acting mayor and found himself a new influential patron. But it's far from certain that he'll stay in office; Mykhailo Dobkin, who's been closely associated with Kernes for many years, is also trying to play.
