Rubryka reports from the scene of Russian attack on Kyiv

Russia, after a 44-day pause, launched a missile attack on Kyiv.

On Thursday, March 21, the Russian forces used Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles from the Tu-95MS strategic bombers and ballistic missiles.

In the morning, explosions rocked the Ukrainian capital, causing destruction and casualties in the Podilskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi districts. The Kyiv City Military Administration later clarified the consequences of the Russian strikes.

Podilskyi district:

  • debris fell onto non-residential buildings
  • fire at a transformer substation covering an area of 200 square meters, extinguished
  • fire on the roof of a non-residential two-story building, extinguished

Shevchenkivskyi district:

  • damage to a multi-story residential building, windows blown out by the blast wave, apartment fire extinguished; evacuation of residents from the building underway
  • Three burning cars extinguished
  • debris falling onto the territory of residential buildings between a kindergarten and residential buildings without negative consequences
  • blastwave damaging window panes of a multi-apartment building
  • fire at a private residential building extinguished

Sviatoshynskyi district:

  • damage to a multi-story residential building, debris falling onto the 4th floor of a 9-story building, windows blown out by the blast wave
  • car fire extinguished.

A Rubryka photo correspondent documented the aftermath of the Russian attack in the Sviatoshynskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts.

Representatives of the Red Cross have set up mobile aid stations near the damaged buildings where residents can warm up, have tea, and receive food.

Humanitarian headquarters have been deployed in the Sviatoshynskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts, where residents of the buildings damaged by the missile attack can seek assistance.

The Sviatoshynskyi district headquarters is located at Kindergarten No. 463, 24-A Akademika Dobrohotova Street. The Shevchenkivskyi district headquarters in Kyiv is set up at School No. 286, 1/28 Delegatskyi Lane.

Overall, the air raid in the capital lasted nearly three hours. After complex maneuvers in neighboring regions, missiles simultaneously approached the capital from different directions.

The Russian attack on the capital injured 13 people, including a child. Six injured individuals are reported in the Sviatoshynskyi district and seven in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Four people have been hospitalized. There is no information available about fatalities. Seventy-nine people have been evacuated. Rescue workers, police, and psychologists are working on-site.

The Air Force has confirmed the destruction of 31 missiles: 29 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles launched by Russia from 11 Tu-95MS strategic bombers, as well as two ballistic missiles (Iskander-M or its North Korean analog KN-23 and Kh-47M2 Kinzhal).
