Restoring the smell and taste after covid with aromatherapy? We asked the patient and the doctor
It turns out that this can be done, but it doesn't help everyone. In addition, you can overdo it and hurt yourself; together with the doctor, we explain how to do everything right
Our heroine, the girl Sasha, has been suffering for more than half a year from a problem that almost everyone who has had covid is familiar with; first, she lost her sense of smell and taste, and then when they returned she realized that feelings were so transformed that Sasha now can not eat some products. We have read medical studies: it turns out that between 45 and 80% of all those who developed Covid-19 had varying degrees of taste and smell. Rubryka decided to turn to a medical specialist to find out what to do with those who have faced the same problem, whether there is a chance to regain their sense of smell, and what is the only right way to protect themselves from such consequences.
What is the problem?
She fell ill with coronavirus and didn't notice
Sasha told us that she probably contracted the coronavirus in late March 2021. "Probably" because the disease was asymptomatic. The girl suspected that something was wrong only in mid-April when tastes and smells began to dull. But the PCR test showed nothing, and she blamed it on a possible allergy. Sasha had no other symptoms:
"I didn't feel any discomfort, I didn't show it physically; as usual, I ran every day. There were no problems with breathing, temperature, or weakness."
