Rubryka has analyzed why the situations in Afghanistan and Ukraine are different, whether Russia will use the Afghan crisis to increase pressure on Ukraine, and why the United States won't shovel additional money and equipment to Ukraine.

Thousands of Afghans are running on the Kabul airport runway and trying to cling to a US plane. People are actually storming the airport: they're climbing over the fence, attacking a boarding bridge. They have children in their arms. The city is congested; everyone is rushing to the airport. It must be the last place in Afghanistan that the Taliban hasn't yet taken control of. And only from here, you can leave the country. And only by plane.

As social media discusses the Afghan tragedy with horror and sympathy, the media report almost every minute on the de facto collapse of Afghanistan's legitimate government and the new order established by the Taliban.

  • "Afghan President flees the country. The Taliban is occupying Kabul."
  • "Afghanistan's vice president declares himself head of state and calls for resistance to the Taliban."
  • "The United States says the Taliban seized 'a significant portion' of the military equipment provided to Afghanistan."
  • "The Taliban promises to fight terrorism and women's rights 'within Islam.'"
  • "The Taliban executes opponents and forcibly marries women."
  • "The Taliban leader returns to Afghanistan from exile. The Taliban promises a general amnesty."
  • "A mother of many children had no money to feed the Taliban: she was beaten to death with machine guns in front of children."

At the same time, the West is looking for those responsible for the capture of Afghanistan by the Taliban, trying to determine its official position on what happened, and is taking the first steps to stabilize the situation.

  • "NATO blames Ghani's government 'failure' for the capture of Afghanistan."
  • "NATO secretary-general promises tough action if Afghanistan becomes a terrorist base again."
  • "EU chief diplomat names preconditions for cooperation with Afghanistan's future government."
  • "Macron is sending two military planes and special forces to Afghanistan."
